Wedding Bells

It's been a while since I posted and a lot has happened since my surgery.

My fiancee and I got married on July 17, 2009. We had been engaged for 4 months to the day. We still have a wedding to plan in Colombia, Nohora's home country. For now, we are working on keeping her here in the U.S. and adjusting her legal status. Getting a green card so she can work and travel is our top priority. As we wait, Nohora is practicing her English and brushing up her resume.

I have all the pictures of the wedding on my Flickr account and you can see the best ones on my facebook page as well.

The ceremony was beautiful, if a little cramped. We got hitched in Historic Ellicott City, MD. The weather was threatening to rain, but it held off until we got to dinner. We had 14 people attend the ceremony at the court house, some members from each family. The judge looked a lot like Judge Judy but she was as nice as can be and made the whole event a lot less governmental than I thought it would be like. It was surprisingly tasteful and quite emotional. I had kept thinking this was more of a legal thing and was caught off guard by how real it all seemed. Looking back, I think I was using that as a way to get through the nervousness that most grooms go though. I really didn't get nervous until we were standing in front of the judge and putting rings on each other's fingers. It was great but it freaked me out a bit!

The wedding in Colombia will be bigger and longer (Catholic Mass of course) and we hope to have it in December or January. I'm looking forward to that one and think now that I am already married, it will be more fun. There will be live musica for one thing!

It was a great day and I am as happy as I could possibly be. I am also feeling nervous about all the responsibility I signed up for, but that's part of life. The good, the bad, the rich days and the poor, all the future experiences. All of that will be part of the rode of married life together. Let the long ride begin.
